This gaming environment is part of my dissertation study focusing on the effects of game-based instructional strategies on learning effectiveness, efficiency, and engagement. The goal of this gaming environment is to engage students in learning statistics by embedding a storyline into an instructional content. The online instructional game and supporting learning materials were created using Adobe Captivate, Lectora, Blackboard, Moodle Learning Management System, Photoshop, and other authoring tools according to the principles of instructional design and educational technology.
Instructional games and simulations are a popular trend in the field of instructional design. Very often commercial off-the-shelf games cannot be used to explore in-depth the instructional benefits of game-enhance learning. This unique learning environment was specifically developed to promote a research in the field of gaming characteristics.
